Fall is here…and beautiful apples too, right?
Who loves apple pie? Well I do love to bake apple pie with fresh juicy apples. I also enjoy making beautiful pie crust designs.
Check out my basic apple pie recipe. So easy to make and the taste of the pie is fantastic!!!

Ingredients for Crust:
6 tablespoons (3 oz./ 85 grams) butter cold and diced
5 tablespoons (2.5 oz./ 70 grams) non-hydrogenated shortening cold and diced
4 oz (120 ml) cold water (or more if needed)
2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon salt
2 teaspoons sugar
Ingredients apple filling:
5-6 Macintosh Apple sliced thin
3/4 cup sugar
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
1/4 teaspoon ground cloves
2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice
Prepare crust:
- Place all ingredients into a food processor bowl, except water and pulse a few times until it resembles a coarse meal.
- Add water slowly while pulsing, until it starts to form dough.
- Place dough on a floured surface.
- Split the dough in 2 parts and wrap them in plastic wrap.
- Refrigerate at least 30 minutes.
Prepare filling:
- Mix all ingredients into a large bowl. Set aside.
Assembling pie:
- Preheat oven to 375F.
- On a floured work surface open half of the dough, forming a disc.
- Place dough in a 9 inch pie dish.
- Fill with prepared apple filling.
- Make a pie cover with the other dough. Or make a lattice or any pattern you like.
- Brush egg wash and sprinkle coarse sugar on top of crust.
- Bake for 35 minutes. Place aluminum foil on top and bake for 20 minutes more.
- Let it cool completely before slicing.
- Look at the crust and all the juices from the apples plus spices and sugar: YUMMYYY!!!! 😋😋😋
- Enjoy 😊.

I saw the unbaked pie on IG, it turned out just gorgeous. I used almost exactly the same pie crust recipe. Your pie is just perfect and you did a beautiful job on the lattice work.
