Orange-Scented Spritz Cookies

spritz-cookies1-copy

With the holidays approaching it’s the best time to make lovely, and beautiful cookies. Spritz cookies are delicious, crispy-buttery cookies originated in Germany and very popular in other European countries, as well as here in the USA. They are made usually with a cookie press, and a template to form several different shapes. We can easily find the cookie press in specialty stores, and even at grocery stores. You can also find it at some websites. I really like the cookie press that I recently purchased from Wilton. It has several different templates. My favorite template is the Christmas tree 🎄. But don’t worry if you don’t have or can’t find the cookie press. You can use a canvas pastry bag with a star tip and make straight shape or star shape cookies.

These cookies are delicious. And even though the majority of recipes called for vanilla or almond extract, in my recipe, I used orange extract. I really like the citrus flavor that infused with the butter creates a delicate and distinctive flavor.

I also made a simple icing to drizzle over the cookies, or to dip the cookies into and then decorate with colored sugar or sprinkles.

The final result, you can see: a very delicate, beautiful and flavorful cookie. Perfect as a Christmas gift.
