Classic Apple Pie

App pie14

Hello everyone,

Apple pie is good anytime of the year. And we can easily find apples in groceries store all over the county, which I think makes our life easier when we want to eat a delicious warm homemade apple pie.

I love this recipe because the dough is so easy to make and it is flaky and buttery. Also I love apple pie because when you are baking it, your whole house smells delicious!

Here is my recipe for a basic pie crust that can not only be used for apple pies, but any kind of pie. But today I’m sharing a step by step recipe for an apple pie that I served as a desert this Easter.

Hope you enjoy!!!

Ingredients for Crust:

6 tablespoons (3 oz./ 85 grams) butter cold and diced

5 tablespoons (2.5 oz./ 70 grams) shortening cold and diced

4 oz (120 ml) cold water (or more if needed)

2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour

1 teaspoon salt

2 teaspoons sugar
App pie1

Prepare crust:

  • Place all ingredients into a food processor bowl, except water and pulse a few times until it resembles a coarse meal.

App pie2

  • Add water slowly while pulsing, until it starts to form dough.

App pie3

  • Place dough on a floured surface.
  • Split the dough in 2 parts and wrap them in plastic wrap.
  • Refrigerate at least 30 minutes.

1 tablespoon fresh squeezed lemon juice

App pie4

*Mix all ingredients into a large bowl.  Set aside.

Assembling pie:

  • Preheat oven to 375F.
  • On a floured work surface open half of the dough, forming a big disc.

App pie7

  • Place dough in a 9 inch pie dish, pressing the bottom and sides very well.

App pie8

  • Fill with prepared apple filling.

App pie9

  • Make a pie cover with the other dough.
  • Make a lattice or any pattern you like.
  • Here I used cookie cutters and I made a twist with the dough to go around the edges. And created a fun Easter pie!
